This week on ABWilson’s Heart of the Matter podcast, I spoke with Rashida Godwin, a historian, entrepreneur and storyteller dedicated to honoring the African diaspora history of Bermuda. With deep intention and soulful honesty, Rashida shares how her passion for truth-telling and community empowerment fuels her work from poring over archives to leading immersive, educational tours across the island.
Rashida reflects on the resilience and purpose behind her mission: to reclaim erased histories and uplift generations through storytelling. Her work blends the tangible, historical records and government documents, with the spiritual, weaving in astrology as a lens through which to understand the past and our collective humanity.
Our conversation explores the intersection of heritage and healing. Rashida opens up about the challenges she’s faced as a Black historian in Bermuda, the importance of wellness in her life, and how she balances advocacy with self-care. She also speaks about Titan Express, her cultural tourism business that creates jobs, builds pride and brings the philosophy of Sankofa, looking back to move forward, to life.
She leaves us with wisdom on what it means to live with intention, and how knowing where we come from can empower us to shape where we’re going. Rashida’s story is a reminder that history is not just something we study. It’s something we carry, share and evolve together.
