I wrote the blog post about Inner Peace last summer (2023) when I was putting the Let's Spend the Year Together 2024 calendar pages together. Since then, I've had more time to think about it and rather than delete my original blog, I thought I would add to it. Inner Peace 2.0.
Over the years, I've discovered a few practices that help me quiet the mental chatter and settle into a place of serenity.
One of my secret weapons? Photography. The moment I grip my camera and step into a distraction-free zone, the world transforms. My entire focus narrows to the scene before me, each frame a silent conversation waiting to be captured. It's like entering a flow state, worries and anxieties melting away as I chase the perfect composition, light, shadow and reflection.
But inner peace isn't just about solitary pursuits. There's a deep sense of calm that comes from connection, and for me, that connection is intertwined with my dear friend Frances Marshall. Years ago, Friday mornings were reserved for meditation sessions at her house. In that quiet space, she patiently guided me on the path to mindfulness, lessons that continue to resonate within me to this day. Whenever I find myself on a meditation space, I'm whisked back to those mornings, enveloped in the warmth of her friendship and the profound peace that meditation fosters.
These are just a few of the tools I've found to cultivate inner peace. How do you find and sustain inner peace?
