Freedom

There are many kinds of freedom.
Financial freedom. Emotional freedom. Personal freedom. Freedom from responsibility, expectation, fear or limitation.
Whenever I think about the word freedom, there is emotion attached to it. Freedom suggests possibility. It tells us there are options, that we have choices and those choices can create opportunities.
For many of us, though, freedom is something we imagine in the future.
When the children grow up. When the mortgage is paid. When we finally take that dream vacation. When the business becomes successful. When we retire.
There is a sense of freedom wrapped inside each of these hopes.
There is nothing wrong with looking forward to them. Dreams give us something to work towards. But I wonder what happens when freedom becomes something we are always waiting to experience.
I believe life is about the journey, not just the destination.
Perhaps that applies to freedom too.
As we work towards the life we want, there may already be moments of freedom available to us. The freedom to change our minds, say no, try something new, rest, ask for help, spend time with people we love, notice what is around us or simply choose how we respond in this moment.
The freedom we imagine for tomorrow does not have to stop us from experiencing some freedom today.
So, as you think about your freedoms, consider:
What does freedom mean to you right now?
What freedom are you working towards? and
What freedom might already be present in your life that you might not yet have noticed?
Send me an email and let me know freedom means to you. (aderonke@abwilsonconsulting.com)
