5,000 Downloads: Thank You for Listening

Today I hit a milestone that feels exciting and grounding. 5,000 downloads of ABWilson’s Heart of the Matter podcast.

If you’ve listened to one episode, shared a link with a friend, left a review or told someone, ‘You’d love this conversation,’ you helped make this happen.

Thank you.

What this number represents

5,000 is more than a statistic. It represents the time you chose to spend with meaningful conversation, the guests who trusted me with their stories and wisdom, the moments of reflection during commutes, walks, chores and quiet evenings and a growing community of people who care about connection, leadership, joy and what it means to live well.

It also reminds me that there’s a real appetite for conversations that feel human.

The heart of the podcast

When I started this podcast, my aim was simple: create a space where people can be seen, heard and appreciated.

Each episode is built around questions that are overwhelmingly positive. I’m drawn to Appreciative Inquiry because it helps us notice what’s strong, what’s already working and what’s possible. It doesn’t ignore challenges. It helps us meet them with clarity and choice. That’s why the questions I ask are from an Appreciative Inquiry lens.

Over time, the podcast has become a living example of the work I do in the world:

  • Conversation that invites depth;

  • Connection that strengthens relationships; and

  • Community that helps us feel less alone.

Conversation, connection, community have become a steady anchor for me.

Unexpected gifts

One of the most unexpected gifts of this podcast has been the way it can turn strangers into friends. Again and again, I’ve watched a conversation shift into connection and connection blossom into friendship.

I’ve been contacted by listeners who want to connect with an interviewee, to ask questions, explore ideas or open doors to new opportunities. In one case, a listener reached out to invite a guest to Bermuda to speak at a conference. Moments like that remind me that the podcast doesn’t end when the recording stops. I never know how a conversation will start, or where it will lead and that continues to be one of the most meaningful parts of this journey.

A word of gratitude

To my guests: thank you for showing up with openness. Thank you for sharing your expertise and your humanity.

To listeners: thank you for making room for these stories. Thank you for welcoming this podcast into your day. Thank you for being part of a community that values listening.

To the people who message me after an episode and say, ‘This part stayed with me,’ thank you. Those notes matter more than you know. I cherish each one and I don’t take you listening to the podcast for granted.

What I’ve learned along the way

Reaching 5,000 downloads has reminded me that consistency compounds and small steps, taken steadily, add up. It’s also reinforced something I’ve felt from the start. People want real, not polished perfection.

Real conversation and genuine connection matter. I’ve seen how positive questions can change the atmosphere by creating safety and opening up possibility. And I’m holding onto this truth even more firmly now.

I’ve also learned that you don’t have to start with perfection or need an elaborate set up. Good enough is good enough. If you listen to some of my earlier interviews, you’ll hear the technical imperfections (all mine) but the guests were magical. That’s what kept me going through the starts and stops, the technical hiccups and the moments when I wondered if I was using the correct microphone. The heart of the conversation was always stronger than the rough edges and with every episode I got better, eventually I found a recording platform and figured out which mic was the best for me.

What’s next

I’m committed to continuing this journey with care and intention. More conversations and more opportunities to listen, learn together and explore.

5,000 is a number worth pausing for. I’m grateful. I’m motivated. I’m proud of the space we’re creating together.

Thank you for being part of ABWilson’s Heart of the Matter podcast

In appreciation,Aderonke Bademosi Wilson
